Winter is near

Frozen beach

The winter is fast closing in, we have had temperatures below -10 degrees Celsius for a while (slightly above 10 degrees Fahrenheit) and the snow seems to have settled for the season in Asker. A little while ago my girlfriend and I went for a walk down by the sea, and the frost had taken hold down there as well. The low sun was glittering over a frosted autumn scenery that was good looking even though you knew that most life was shutting down for the winter.

Spring in Norway?

Early morning (06:36)

In these global warming days it is nice to see that the extremes still give us some snow now and then. Actually this winter we have seen a lot of it. A few weeks ago the snow on the slopes next to the road was at about 1,5 meters of height. Now they are about half that. It is kind of weird though. The birds are singing among the threes, the fog is hanging low and the days are fast getting brighter. But there is still about 1 meter of snow laying on the fields. A bit more than normal for this time of year. Further north on the west coast of Norway they have almost no snow left.
