Doozers

Some years ago there was a TV-series called “Fraggles Rock” from the creator of the Muppets.

The series was translated to Norwegian and one of the “races” or “creatures” of the series was called “Doozers” or “Doserne” in Norwegian.

I recently noticed the following sign on a building in Oslo. I guess the people of that company saw the series when they were young.

PS: If you didn’t get the joke: The doozers always built things.

Cracking the system – the “new” way

Any web-developer that has been working with a form on the Internet can tell you that to sanitize your input fields is a must, and of course it does not only apply to web applications. But I do admit that this little cartoon I read a little way back sums it up pretty marvelously.

Exploits of a Mom

This cartoon is available at xkcd.com and the site is highly recommended (if you are technically inclined).

Faulty Encyclopedia?

This is really old news, but I figured not everybody knew it so I guess I will repeat it here anyway. This is the case that the new collaborative workings of the internet is one-upping an old institution. Wikipedia has, as we all know, some errors in it, they are continously corrected of course. The thing is that some of the competition also has problems, and since it’s printed it’s not that easy to change as Wikipedia

If you visit this page you can read Wikipedia’s list of errors in Encyclopedia Britannica. Some of the errors are a bit bigger than I would have guessed.

Grey-headed Woodpecker

Pretty good camouflage, until it starts finding food that is. Then the noise pretty much gives it away.

There are two kinds of woodpeckers that both are quite similar to each other.

You have got the Green Woodpecker and the Grey-headed Woodpecker.
Both are green on their back, but the green woodpecker has got a dark field around the eyes. So when I first took this picture I was so sure that I had seen a Green Woodpecker, but then it turned out to be a Grey-headed one instead.

This guy (or girl, I’ve no idea witch it is) perched in a three outside our apartment one Sunday. Again I got a lucky shot.

Correction: I’ve done some more research and it might be possible that this is a Green Woodpecker after all, but a juvenile not an adult. I found this site today, and there you can see the same spotted chest as in my picture. Oh well, if there are somebody who knows, please add a comment to this post.
