Wildlife in Norway

Some of the easiest wildlife to spot in Norway are the birds. Depending on what parts of Norway you are visiting you may be treated to a lot of other animals as well. This week I have been visiting some of the finest areas in Norway, the fjord and mountain counties of the western Norway. While in the only county in Møre & Romsdal that have no coastline, Rindal, we had the joy of seeing a couple of hare kids. They were nearly fully grown, but still not very scared of people.

Lepus timidus
This is a mountain hare. Maybe a couple of months old.

Hopefully this little hare took great care, for the day after a few Rough-legged Buzzards (fjellvåk) circled the area again and again.

Spring in Norway?

Early morning (06:36)

In these global warming days it is nice to see that the extremes still give us some snow now and then. Actually this winter we have seen a lot of it. A few weeks ago the snow on the slopes next to the road was at about 1,5 meters of height. Now they are about half that. It is kind of weird though. The birds are singing among the threes, the fog is hanging low and the days are fast getting brighter. But there is still about 1 meter of snow laying on the fields. A bit more than normal for this time of year. Further north on the west coast of Norway they have almost no snow left.

Løkken Verk

Old mining building on Løkken.

It’s the christmas season and I take a lot of pictures, the problem is that most of them is of family, and nothing I plan to add to this blog, but a little while ago I took this picture. It’s from Løkken Verk in the middle of Norway (Sør-Trøndelag) and shows one of the old abandoned mining buildings there. The old mines were closed down in 1987, and the old buildings are slowly turning into ruins.

Play in traffic

So this is a first for me. I’ve seen other pictures like this and I’ve always wanted to try myself. So last Wednesday a couple of friends and I went for a walk down to the motorway. It was raining heavily, but hey… we are Norwegians are we not? The rain made the road wet though, and that added a lot to the pictures. See for yourself.
